Each year we teach hundreds of kids from around the province about the importance of self-confidence and self-esteem. How? We help them fly like Superman on the zip lines, climb to new heights on the climbing wall, and bond with their peers and teachers on the challenge course. After all, a school trip should be about more than just having fun!

At Blue Mountain Outdoor Adventure Center, we combine incredible adventure with personal growth to create an experience that will linger in the minds of your students for a lifetime. Our professional guides and facilitators have years of experience working with kids of all ages, and will set up a specialized program for your school based on your needs.

Some of the activities we offer include

Climbing Wall: We have two climbing walls situated on a hill overlooking the area which can accommodate up to a total of 30 people at once. Our new 10-meter outdoor climbing wall can be easily adjusted to any angle or pitch. Our other climbing wall has 21 routes, ranging from beginner to expert. Equipment and lessons are provided. Mechanical belays are used which automatically engage. Twelve years of age and under need an adult belayer. More clothing is better than less, and runners (not sandals) are a good idea. NOTE: No time limit for use.

Zip Line: Experience the thrill of the zip line, where you are attached to a pulley at a high point and glide to a lower station. We have 2 zip lines, one over 250 meters long that extends over a valley, and the other over 500 meters long. Every system has a double or triple back-up, and everyone is buckled into harness equipment. Rides include "Superman", "Batman", "Skydiver", and "Hang-glider". Up to 30 rides can be done in one hour.

Paintball: Blue Mountain Paintball is a step beyond the rest as you play on top of a large hill. Three football-sized playing fields extend on separate plateaus as far as the valley below. Field types include large speedball area, bus, old farm yard, forts, hill with bunkers and trenches, and our Old West town (OK Corral). All equipment is provided, including full face shields, neck guards, bandanas, jackets, and coveralls. (Paint washes out of all clothes.) Safety is our highest priority. Waivers are required.

Astronomy: Learn about different constellations, myths, star formations from a knowledgeable and experienced interpreter. View stars through binoculars and telescopes. Discussion sheets with questions and information are available to students.

High Ropes Course: Walk on cables 10 meters above the ground. Challenge your fears! This activity is great for motivating students to challenge problems in life. Six different obstacles are available.

The Maze: Learn to use a compass and find your way in the woods. Participants progress from basic compass instruction to following one of four courses. They must be with a partner in order to find 15 stations in a controlled wooded area on a hilly plateau overlooking the valley below. Bearings from a map are taught to advanced students. More advanced programs are available if needed. Bush clothing is a good idea.

Canoes and Kayaks: Canoeing is a quiet and relaxing way to experience the water. Learn about the parts of the canoe, how to step safely into and exit the canoe, and basic strokes. Then enjoy a paddle on our well-protected, 6-meter deep lake. It encompasses 10 acres and is well sheltered. The lake is also great for swimming, with a great beach, a diving board, and a floating platform. It is recommended that all people have basic swimming skills. Life jackets are provided by Blue Mountain Resort, and must be worn at all times. Life guards can be provided on request.

Interpretive Hikes: Hikes are given by our knowledgeable staff. Here you can discover various plant life, see animal tracks, and learn about the history and geography of the area. Walk beside and on top of a working beaver dam, and visit a marsh land. Climb to the top of our island and view 30 kms in every direction. Stand on top of our tower, the next highest point in the province to Cypress Hills. It's a great way to get to know your group better and to relax in the great outdoors.

Team Building and Leadership Programming: These are always fun to do, and help the group to function together as a whole. This program can range from the basic, such as a few interactive activities to allow the group to get to know each other, to a very detailed and in-depth program. People learn more about themselves through personality profiles such as the "colors" program, and how different personalities, when combined, affect group dynamics. Discussions are combined with indoor and outdoor activities, and participants are introduced to initiative tasks. This program can be combined with activities related to communication, leadership, and decision making. Activities can last from a few hours to 3 days. Blue Mountain was the host center for a Provincial Leadership Conference, where 1000 students attended. Fees are $20 per hour per instructor, based on a group of 10 people. This activity is excellent for classes starting out the year.

Outdoor Environmental Games: We have so many to choose from. Games follow the format as activities found in Project Adventure, Project Wild, Aqua Wild, the Learning Tree, and Focus on Forest.

Challenge Courses: The design is group-oriented, where most tasks need a team to complete initiative tasks. The area is surrounded by large trees providing a very unique setting.

Cycle Tours: Bike tours can be done in the resort, or on our back country roads. The area is very unique in every aspect. Sights include scenic rolling hills, winding roads, game farms, and pioneer villages and settlements. It is a ride you will remember. Blue Mountain was the host site of the Provincial Championships in mountain biking.

Backpacking: Are you planning a day hike in the mountains? This course could help. Learn about proper equipment, hiking boots, planning menus, and safety in bear country. The program could also include backpacking excursions.

Camping Skills: Depending on your group's needs, we can teach you about packing a bedroll, pitching a tent, and packing food and equipment you will need for a trip. We offer hands-on opportunity to try out some of the gear which is on the market.

Summer Survival: Learn about survival in the woods how to build shelter, find water, and make a fire from scratch. Programs can be modified to meet individual group needs.

Eco Challenges - Survival Challenges: This activity is great for groups looking to have a little fun and challenge themselves. Ask Blue Mountain to plan or set up your challenge today.

WINTER ACTIVITIES

Cross Country Skiing: World class athletes and skiing officials have rated Blue Mountain as having some of the best trails and facilities in the world for cross country skiing. Trails are all rated according to ability, and lessons and ski rentals are available at a very reasonable rate. There are over 40 kms of groomed trails, with over 20 kms groomed for skating. If you have tried classic skiing, you might want to venture into skate skiing. This form of skiing resembles skating on ice. It is great conditioning for hockey players. Bring a lunch for the trails or visit our confectionary for a variety of food and gift items. Blue Mountain has been the host center for the Provincial Championships in Cross Country and Biathlon for 6 years.

Tubing: Our tube hills can be very mild, and some are as high and steep as any ski hill in the area. Tubes are provided free of charge. There are 4 different runs. We have found that adults enjoy this as much as the kids! Supervision is always recommended.

Skating: There is a large skating rink located next to the chalet. Bring your skates, and add this activity to one of the many at Blue Mountain Outdoor Adventure Center.

Winter Survival Skills: This activity includes building a quinzhee, starting a fire, and learning more about skills in the outdoors. Summer survival skills are also available.

Zipline: in any weather

Paintball: good up to -15 degrees C.

Custom Designed Programs to Fit Your Subject Area: We are able to custom design programs to fit your needs. Learning is so much more fun in the outdoors, and we can help create programs to fit your curriculum.

We will also develop personalized programs for students centering around a specific theme such as leadership training or team building.
